2012 Climbing Diary

This table is little more than an electronic version of a notebook that I keep each year about the climbs that I do. Note that I have only ever recorded those routes in the extreme grades. It may be elitist but in its own peculiar way it forces me to attempt routes that are close to my limit in order to keep the average grade up.

There are links to any trip reports or photos in the notes column.

Note that bolted routes are included in this list and are given French Gradings indicated by F before the grade.

Date Route Grade Led Notes
29 July Kings Meaburn
Ivy Crack E1   HVS in our guide, apparently harder since the demise of a tree.
4 May Neckband Crag
  Razor Crack E1   Felt hard.
1 April Gouther Crag
Bloodhound E2   Only top-roped but I've done it several times before.
Hernia E1   Just a short committing section.
18 March Robin Proctor’s Scar
Wheels on Fire F6a+ y Still good but began to feel a bit tired after just a couple of easier routes.
Tombstone Blues F6a y Felt easy.
Subterranean Homesick Blues F6a+   Got to midway through the crux and ran out of strength so top-roped it.
11 March Giggleswick South
Prehensile Wall F6a y The crux was a bit damp.
In The Rough F6b+   A damp lower crux wall then pumpy - I need to get fitter.
4 March Waterfall Crag
Windsor Wall F6b   Easy to the last move.
Rhubarb Wall F6a+   Only a handful of moves that are different from the groove on the left but quite good moves.
4 March Dyserth Castle Slab
  Tegengle F6a   Not very good.
The Purple Ladies versus Godzilla F6a+   Not very good - have to work at avoiding the big holds on the right.
Genesis F6b+   The best of those here.
Llewelyn ap Gruffudd to Neil Crud F6b   A bit crumbly in the upper half.
